Erzeugung von THz-Strahlung mit intrinsischen Josephson-Kontakten


Hochtemperatursupraleiter wie die Verbindung Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8 (BSCCO) sind schichtartig aufgebaut, wobei die für die Supraleitung verantwortlichen Kupferoxidebenen durch nicht-supraleitende Barrierenschichten (Lagen aus SrO und Bi2O3 im Fall von BSCCO) getrennt sind. Damit bilden diese Systeme intrinsisch Stapel von Josephsonkontakten, wobei die Dicke eines Kontakts nur ca. 1.5 nm beträgt (die Schichtfolge CuO2-SrO/ Bi2O3-CuO2 bildet dabei einen intrinsischen Kontakt). Ein 1 µm dicker BSCCO Einkristall besteht aus einem Stapel von 666 dieser Kontakte. Intrinsische Josephsonkontakte können bei Frequenzen bis über 10 Terahertz oszillieren. Sie sind damit z. B. für die Erzeugung von elektromagnetischer Strahlung insbesondere im Terahertz-Bereich von großer Bedeutung.

Der intrinsische Josephsoneffekt wurde 1992 von R. Kleiner und P. Müller entdeckt und wird weltweit intensiv untersucht.

Die blauen Schichten repräsentieren die supraleitenden Lagen (CuO2 -Schichtens), die transparenten Zwischenschichten die isolierenden Barrieren. Der rechte Graph zeigt einen Ausschnitt aus einer typischen Strom-Spannungs-Charakteristik (IVC). Die Josephsonkontakte im Stapel können individuell zwischen dem spannungslosen und dem resistiven Zustand geschaltet werden, so dass die IVC aus zahlreichen Ästen besteht, die sich in der Zahl resistiver Kontakte unterscheiden. In der Abbildung sind drei dieser Äste gezeigt. Die Pfeile geben die Richtung der Stromrampe an, die nötig ist, um die IVC aufzunehmen.
