Objectives:
How is light encoded in the visual system?
The course is particularly suitable for students with a computational interest in visual perception and its initial, early encoding in retina, LGN and the first stages of visual cortex. We will discuss the optics of the human eye, absolute thresholds for detection, adaptation, the contrast sensitivity function and contrast gain-control.
Learning Targets:
Participants learn about the fundamentals of information encoding and transmission in the human visual system. The course should enable them to see and critically evaluate connections between experimental data and computational theories and models of early spatial vision.
