Public Lecture: The Triangular Relations Among China, Russia, and Europe

Wednesday, January 8, 12-14h c.t., Keplerstr. 2, Room 1.81 and online

Speaker: Dr. Wu Di, Assistant Professor, School of International Studies, Renmin University of China

This lecture delves into the triangular relationship, exploring how interactions between these three powers shape not only their bilateral ties but also broader geopolitical trends.

The relationship between China and Europe is increasingly influenced by the strategic posture and actions of Russia. From energy dependencies to security concerns and diplomatic alignments, Russia plays a significant role in the interplay between China and Europe. For China, Russia is both a strategic partner and a neighbor with shared interests in counterbalancing Western hegemony. However, the relationship is not without challenges. China seeks to balance its growing ties with Europe—a crucial economic partner and advocate for multilateralism.

What constructive steps should China and Europe take to navigate these complexities, foster mutual understanding, and promote global stability?
