Danny Dorling: Regional Inequality in the EU and Its Impact - Thursday, May 9, 2019, 18:00 c.t. - Schloss Hohentübingen, Room 165
The development of a socially coherent Europe is a key element of the European integration process. The European Union contains the happiest, most equitable and successful countries on earth. It is also home to a few of the most socially and economically divided countries in the OECD. However, greater regional equality is urgently needed within Europe, not least because greater global equality will almost certainly mean Europe will be less relatively prosperous in the very near future. It is entirely possible for Europe to become better at sharing worldwide and also not to leave most regions and most people behind. But to do that requires a clear idea of what matters most, why it matters, and what goes so very wrong when you tolerate the growth of inequality both within any member state and across the union.
