Diploma work at the "Lehrstuhl für Zellbiologie und Pflanzenphysiologie" with Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Lockau. Title: "Investigation of Photosystem I in Euglena gracilis".
1991: PhD Thesis in Cell Biology at the Lehrstuhl für Zellbiologie und Pflanzenphysiologie, Universität Regensburg (supervisor: Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Lockau). Title: Ca2+ dependent protease of the cyanobacterium Anabaena.
1992: Postdoc (DFG postdoctoral fellowship) at "Plant Research Laboratory" at Michigan State University in the group of Prof. Dr. Peter Wolk. Research topics: characterisation of transposon derived mutants defective in heterocyst differentiation.
