Studienkolleg 2026-2027 

The Individual and the Aggregate

Selected undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students from all disciplines participate in a seminar and lecture program while working in small groups on their own research projects. The Studienkolleg provides a space to explore the theme The Individual and the Aggregate from an interdisciplinary perspective, reaching beyond traditional academic boundaries and structures.

The Studienkolleg receives additional funding from the University of Tübingen.

Program Overview & Core Elements

  • Kick-off Weekend, 30. October – 01 November, 2026 (Friday to early Sunday afternoon). Location: Bad Urach
  • Wednesday Sessions (during the lecture period): 6:00–8:00 p.m.

    Content: Colloquia featuring presentations and discussions with renowned scientists from various disciplines, internal seminars within the study group (Studienkollegsgruppe), or collaborative input from the project groups.

  • two Weekend Seminars
  • Project Groups: Throughout the academic year, participants work in interdisciplinary groups on their own research or project topics.
  • Final Project Presentation: At the end of July 2027.
  • Publication Opportunity: If there is sufficient interest, the project group results may be published as an edited volume by Tübingen Library Press (TLP).

Funding

Studienkolleg: ECTS Credits and Program Allowance

The Studienkolleg complements participants' degree programs. During the program, participants can earn 12 ECTS credits (6 ECTS per semester). These credits are generally recognized within the corresponding modules of the respective degree programs. Credit recognition is subject to the regulations of the relevant examination offices. Participants must be enrolled at the University of Tübingen throughout the program year.

Each participant receives a program allowance of €250 per semester from TFW to support their participation in the Studienkolleg. In addition, TFW covers all program-related costs. The Studienkolleg is also supported by additional program funding from the University of Tübingen.

Appication

English speaking PhD-candidates & students are welcome to submit an application for the Studienkolleg on The Individual and the Aggregate! You may need some understanding of spoken German but no need to actively speak German yourself.

The application should include:

• An approx. half to one page letter of motivation
• CV
