Studying abroad while pursuing a Master’s degree in Tübingen

The School of Business and Economics actively encourages its students to take part in academic exchange and strives to provide opportunities to do so. This includes the School’s Double Degree programs with integrated study abroad periods, as well as individually arranged study visits abroad. However, this may lead to a longer duration of study, especially in three-semester master’s programs.

Available partner universities

There is a large number of partner universities both within Europe (as part of the ERASMUS+ program) and in all other parts of the world. A detailed list of all available partner universities is provided on the general page for studying in Europe under Erasmus+. Especially as a Master student, it is very important to carefully review the course options at the available partner universities to make sure they fit to your study plan. Due to the large number of partner universities, almost all students that apply for studying abroad are offered a spot. As many students have similar preferences regarding their intended partner university, a spot at the first preference cannot be guaranteed.

For overseas exchange, the application documents must be submitted to the International Office. The application deadlines vary from region to region. Details can be found here.

To keep in mind

Studying abroad can be a valuable experience, both personally and academically. However, the course standards often vary greatly between universities and countries. Therefore, you should consider in advance whether the courses at your preferred university can be transferred towards your degree in Tübingen. The decision about which courses are considered equivalent to the ones in Tübingen is made by the respective chairs of the School.

Funding

There are several options to finance a study abroad period, including work, loans, and scholarships. The School of Business and Economics itself does not offer any scholarships, but gladly lists a number of possible sources of financing for students.

  • Students participating in the ERASMUS+ program can apply for a monthly mobility scholarship, depending on the country of choice. This scholarship is managed by the University’s Erasmus Office.
  • Students planning to study one semester at a partner university overseas may apply for the Baden-Württemberg scholarship.
  • Funding by the German state (“Auslands-BAföG”) is available to German citizens and non-Germans alike under certain conditions. The University’s BAföG office provides details and counselling.
  • The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) also offers a number of funding opportunities, such as its well-endowed scholarships for year-long programs, which are competitive, but usually worth the effort.
