Biacore X100 system monitors molecular interactions in real time using label free detection based on the phenomenon of surface plasmon resonance (SPR). One of the interacting molecules is immobilized on the surface of a sensor chip, while the other is injected in solution and flows over the sensor surface. It characterizes molecules in terms of their specificity of their interaction providing quantitative information on:
- Specificity – how specific is the binding between two molecules?
- Concentration – how much of a given molecule is present and active?
- Kinetics – what is the rate of association/dissociation?
- Affinity – how strong is the binding?
Biacore utilizes label-free technology which can be used to study molecular interactions from small peptides (>100 Da) to multiple sub-unit protein complexes.
Users have to bring their own consumables.
