Admission procedure
Entry Exam
The date of the next entry exam will be announced at least 4 weeks before the exam.
Due to legal restrictions, the exam cannot be offered online or at other locations!
Please register and confirm your participation in the exam by sending an email to masterspam prevention@ifib.uni-tuebingen.de with the headline “confirmation master exam” and include in the email text your full name (last name, first name) and your email address. This confirmation is required until Friday, 24 May 2024.
All confirmed participants will receive further information on the procedure and guidelines for the exam by email.
Requirements
excellent bachelor in biochemistry or closely related
In addition, you need to meet our criteria about your previous education (see FAQ, What we expect). You need to have at least 20 points at the end of the selection process, to be elegible for admission.
Places offered
We will offer a total of at least35 places to the highest scoring applicants per year (spring+fall selection). Typically the fall intake is larger than the spring one. Depending on the quality of the applications, we may offer more than the minimum number of places.
Written exam
A written English examination in basic biochemistry will be held twice a year in Tübingen. Participation in the written exam is recommended but you can apply relying only on your bachelor grade & CV, which means you can score a maximum of 45 points out of 65. You can repeat the exam once; the best grade counts. Results can then be used for your application at any time. If you want to take part, please send an email with the subject text entrance exam and your full name and contact adress in the body to masterspam prevention@ifib.uni-tuebingen.de no later then 1 week before the exam date. This will automatically register you for the exam. The test normaly takes place on the Friday closest to the deadline, if not anounced differently. Bring identification and a calculator. Bonus points
Starting with applications for winter term 2024, you can no longer apply for CV points.
We will instead award points for practical education.
The following bonus points will be automatically applied to applicants who hold a BSc Biochemistry or aequivalent degree. Please provide documents to proof your previous education.

Application material
Bachelor certificate including your final or preliminary grade and your class rank (We cannot accept transcripts without an average grade or cGPA.)
Class rank means your final grade ranked X among Y students who graduated that year. For local applicants we have access to this information.
For documentation not in English or German, we require an official English translation along with a copy of the original document.
If you are in the last semester of your bachelor degree, you may apply with an English or German record of all the grades received up to that point including their average.
An English Curriculum vitae in table format and in reverse chronological order of max. 1 page. Please include your focus subject in high school, any higher eduction, awards/scholarships and relevant extracurricular activities.
Evidence of very good written and spoken English. No documentation is required, if your mother tongue is English, if you studied in English, if you lived for an extended amount of time in an English-speaking country or if sufficient English skills are documented in your school leaving exam. Otherwise, you need to provide one of the common certificates. If you make the short list, we may verify your English skills by a short conversation.
University entrance qualification (as for the bachelor certificate, an official translation may be required)
