Die Forschungsarbeiten der mediävistischen Abteilung des Deutschen Seminars richten sich in ihren Schwerpunkten auf Fragen der Literaturtheorie und Ästhetik, des religiösen Wissens, der Performativität (besonders des vormodernen Schauspiels), der historischen Anthropologie (insbesondere der Emotionsforschung und Dingforschung) sowie der Edition historischer Texte. Es wird sowohl in historischen und systematischen Einzelprojekten als auch in interdisziplinären Forschungsverbünden im Rahmen von Graduiertenkollegs (GRK), Promotionsverbünden und Sonderforschungsbereichen (SFB) gearbeitet.
