Postdoc position in plant developmental biology (m/f/d, E13 TV-L, 100%, limited for 2 years)

 

is available in our laboratory at the Center for Plant Molecular Biology (ZMBP), University of Tübingen (Germany). The preferred start date is February 2027.

Research
Our group studies the timing mechanisms plants use to control the timing of cell identity transitions. In general, we are interested in plant development, cell identity, and pattern formation (for more background see Smit et al. 2023 Dev Cell and Sasidharan et al. 2026 bioRxiv). In this project you will use follow up on datasets exposing complex cell states when cells try but fail to mature. You will work to validate these cell states and identify key regulators, testing them using genetic approaches.

Your profile
We are looking for a curiosity-driven, highly motivated candidate with good communication and teamwork skills who can work independently in a goal-oriented manner. The candidate should have a PhD in Biology, Bioinformatics or Biochemistry, preferentially with a focus on Plant Biology, Developmental Biology or Bioinformatics. Excellent English written and oral skills are required, previous experience with Arabidopsis thaliana, confocal imaging, and single cell approaches are a plus.

for a fixed term of three years is available shared between our two laboratories (Bayer Lab, Smit Lab) at the Center for Plant Molecular Biology (ZMBP), University of Tübingen (Germany). The starting date is within the first quarter of 2027.

Research
Our groups study plant development with a focus on signaling in embryogenesis and stomatal development. Your project will look at the robustness of developmental programs in response to environmental change, particularly increased temperatures.

Your profile
We are looking for a motivated candidate with good communication and teamwork skills who can work independently in a goal-oriented manner. The ideal candidate should have an MSc or equivalent in Biology, Biochemistry or Bioinformatics. Prior experience in molecular plant biology and/or bioinformatics analysis is desired.

The Center for Plant Molecular Biology (ZMBP) at the University of Tübingen invites applications for a DFG-funded PhD position on “Understanding the dual role of SOBIR1 and PBL30 in steering plant immunity and development”. The position is available from January 2027 and is initially funded for three years, with the possibility of extension.

Plant immunity and development are coordinated by surface-localized pattern recognition receptors, including leucine-rich repeat receptor-like proteins (LRR-RLPs), which depend on signaling partners such as SOBIR1 and PBL30. As SOBIR1 and PBL30 also contribute to floral organ abscission, this project aims to uncover the SOBIR1- and PBL30-dependent signaling networks that orchestrate immune responses and floral organ abscission.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated graduate with an excellent Master's degree in Biology, Biochemistry, or a related discipline. The ideal candidate has a strong interest in plant immunity or development, is proficient in English, and has practical experience in plant molecular biology and protein biochemistry. The Cluster of Excellence GreenRobust invites applications for a PhD position in the field of plant immune receptor evolution in the Department of Plant Biochemistry at the Center for Plant Molecular Biology (ZMBP), University of Tübingen. The position is available from January 2027 and is initially funded for three years, with the possibility of extension.

Plant immunity relies on pattern recognition receptors (PRRs) for the detection of invading pathogens, with leucine-rich repeat receptor-like proteins (LRR-RLPs) representing one of the most diverse receptor families. The overarching goal of our project, REVALUTION, is to re-evaluate ambiguous ligand–receptor interactions in an evolutionary framework. In close collaboration with the Koch/Walden group at the Centre for Organismal Studies (COS), Heidelberg, the project explores how genome evolution drives the diversification of plant immune receptors and their capacity to recognize diverse pathogen-derived molecules, using the Arabidopsis receptor RLP30 and the Nicotiana receptor RE02 as model systems (Yang et al., 2023, Nature Communications; Yang et al., 2025, Nature Biotechnology).

The successful candidate will join the research groups of Laura Medina-Puche and Andrea Gust at the ZMBP. The project combines evolutionary genomics, AI-guided structural modelling, and molecular and functional biology to discover novel Brassica immune receptors and unravel the molecular principles governing ligand recognition and downstream signalling in RLP30/RE02-like receptors.

Master and or Bachelor Thesis in Plant Pathogen Interactions (RG El Kasmi)

Our research group in the Department for Plant Physiology at the Center for Plant Molecular Biology (ZMBP), University of Tübingen, is offering the possibility for a highly motivated Master and or Bachelor (of Biology, Biochemistry or Cellular Nanoscience) student to do her/his thesis project in our lab.
We are currently working on the characterization of interactors of a plant immune receptor of the NLR family. We would like to validate the preliminary results (interactions observed in yeast-2-hybrid screen) and to further cell biologically, genetically and biochemically characterize the function of the identified proteins during (NLR-mediated) immunity.
The project will include the following methods:
•    Molecular analysis (cloning, bacterial transformation, etc.)
•    In planta Protein-protein interaction studies (co-immunoprecipitation, BiFC and FRET interaction assays)
•    Genetic studies (crosses, genotyping, etc.)
•    Plant infection assays

Master and/or Bachelor Thesis in Plant Biochemistry

Our research group in the Department for Plant Biochemistry at the Center for Plant Molecular Biology (ZMBP), University of Tübingen, is seeking highly motivated Master and Bachelor students.
Our department is working on the characterization of plant immunity receptors and their regulators, as well as downstream signaling pathways.
Projects generally include the following methods:

  • Generation of plant mutants and their characterization
  • Recombinant protein expression and purification
  • In vitro and in vivo phosphorylation experiments
  • Protein-protein interaction studies (co-immunoprecipitation, yeast two-hybrid and FRET-FLIM interaction assays)
  • Molecular and physiological studies (cloning, real time-PCR, etc.)
  • Plant infection assays

Das Labor für Analytik des Zentrums für Molekularbiologie der Pflanzen (ZMBP) der Universität Tübingen sucht zum nächstmöglichen Zeitpunkt eine/n kooperative/n, selbständige/n und motivierte/n

FH - Ingenieur (m/w/d, 50 %, E 11 TV-L)

 

für die Bedienung, Wartung und Reparatur seiner GC/MS und LC/MS Systeme. 

Das Labor für Analytik des ZMBP führt analytische Servicearbeiten im Bereich Metabolomics für verschiedene Forschungsgruppen der Universität durch. Der/dem Stelleninhaber/in obliegt dabei die völlig selbstständige und eigenverantwortliche Vorbereitung der Proben, deren Messung und Auswertung sowie die Einordnung der erzielten Ergebnisse in den wissenschaftlichen Gesamtzusammenhang und deren Diskussion mit den Auftraggebern. Darüber hinaus wird von einer für diese Position geeigneten Person auch erwartet, dass die Geräte völlig selbstständig und eigenverantwortliche gewartet und fachgerecht repariert werden.

Für diese anspruchsvolle Tätigkeit wird zwingend vorausgesetzt: 

  • eine abgeschlossene Ausbildung als FH-Ingenieur, bzw. vergleichbare Kenntnisse
  • mehrjährige, selbstständige Erfahrungen in der metabolischen Analytik von Pflanzen oder verwandten wissenschaftlichen Disziplinen
  • sicherer Umgang mit verschiedenen IT-Systemen und Microsoft Office. Erfahrungen mit der Software der Gerätehersteller Shimadzu, Bruker und Sciex sind von Vorteil.
  • aufgrund der Komplexität und des großen Gefahrenpotentials der verwendeten Methoden ist ein hohes Maß an Zuverlässigkeit und Verantwortungsbewusstsein unverzichtbar.
  • zudem sind die Universität Tübingen und das ZMBP multikulturell geprägt, daher sind solide Englischkenntnisse notwendig.
