On these pages, you will find information on professorship appointments in Germany and on the services and support that the University of Tübingen offers.
Ladies and Gentlemen, dear (potential) future colleagues,
Appointing new professors is one of the most important decisions a university can make. As a University of Excellence, the University of Tübingen is seeking to hire the brightest minds from around the globe. The University of Tübingen is a distinguished research-intensive university that offers a broad spectrum of disciplines and especially promotes cutting-edge interdisciplinary research. In recognition of its academic distinction and ground-breaking discoveries, the university was awarded federal funding for three Clusters of Excellence in 2018 (in Machine Learning, Microbiome and Infection and Tumor Therapy) and in 2019 was re-awarded the status as one of 11 Universities of Excellence in Germany. Tübingen has a long tradition of excellence in the humanities as well, recognized by the THE subject ranking in 2021 as number 24 in the world and thus currently among the top three German universities.
The University of Tübingen upholds the highest human resources standards by conducting open, transparent, diversity-sensitive and performance-based appointment procedures for its academic positions. But if one has little or no knowledge of the German higher education system, it can seem complicated. The following pages have been designed to provide information to job applicants from other countries specifically, but more generally to anyone who is considering the opportunities academia in Germany has to offer.
With a history of more than five centuries, the University of Tübingen is creating knowledge that continues to shape the future. A diverse and international faculty will help the university pave the way to further innovation and support the education of future leaders in research and industry.
I look forward to welcoming you at the University of Tübingen!
Prof. Dr. Bernd Engler
President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Tübingen
