Citizen Council on AI and Freedom

Starting in September 2024, the Citizen Council brought together forty randomly selected citizens from across the state of Baden-Württemberg with experts in AI research. Over several sessions, they jointly developed recommendations for the responsible design of AI research and its impact on our freedoms. Members of the public were invited to events in the region to join the discussion.

CIVIS Open Lab

The CIVIS Open Lab serves as an interface and meeting space between the university and society. Here, citizens collaborate with researchers and students to develop solutions for the major global challenges of the 21st century. Individuals, schools, companies, associations, and local or regional authorities are all welcome to participate.

Journalist-in-Residence

For a paid residency of three to six months, journalists have the opportunity to work with AI researchers to pursue questions that concern them. They gain insights into the fundamentals, opportunities, and limitations of AI, computer vision, and robotics, while building a professional network with researchers and institutions working on AI in science, industry, and society.

ScienceUs Upscale Academy

This EU-wide platform supports promising citizen science projects in scaling up. Coordinated by the University of Tübingen, the Upscale Academy guides initiatives through a three-phase program offering advice, training, networking, mentoring, and funding opportunities. Regions, policymakers, and stakeholders can connect and develop joint projects to help face climate change and which could be transferred to other regions or situations.
