Our workshops as part of the Transdisciplinary Course Program offer you the ideal platform for exploring potential career paths while uncovering your talents and interests. They also offer valuable guidance on optimizing your application documents and enhancing your self-presentation skills.

Under the guidance of experienced external lecturers, you will have the opportunity to learn and grow in small groups of around 10 students from different disciplines. The interactive workshops take place online or in person and allow you to exchange ideas with your peers.

It is Never Too Early to Plan Your Career

It’s never too early or too often to plan your career! This workshop offers step-by-step guidance to create short- and long-term career plans, helping students transition into professionals. You’ll reflect on past experiences to understand your needs and potential, then learn how to find hidden job opportunities, improve your CV, and conduct interviews. By the end, you'll feel confident in launching your dream career with practical tools and lasting self-development techniques.

Taught by:

Dr. Fei Hong, originally from China, has lived in Europe for nearly 20 years. Since 2012, she has led seminars and workshops for professionals and students. She earned her PhD in psychology from the University of Tübingen in 2016, developing the Mindful Self-Development Coaching (MSDC) program to reduce burnout and manage stress. In 2017, she founded her own coaching practice. Dr. Hong holds degrees from the London School of Economics and Middlesex University and lives with her family in the Black Forest.

If you fail to prepare well, well then prepare to fail!
Interviews and Assessment Centers (ACs) are the last step before your dream job. These two popular and yet stressful job selection tools are used by the majority, if not all companies. Especially the increasing trend of using video interviews can be intimidating!

The design of the workshop is based on the culture of multinational companies where the trainer used to work in various managerial roles. Therefore, you will gain valuable Human Resources (HR) manager insider knowledge and tips throughout the workshop from the theory of HR management to hands-on practices and mock video interviews. You will also have many practical challenges to solve, both individually and in a group setting.

The more interconnected our world gets, the more we also have to deal with complexity. This can sometimes feel overwhelming, and you find yourself unsure, what next best step to take.

This workshop provides you with the basics of systems thinking as a sense-making tool and approaches of design thinking to device solutions. So you can act decisively - for society, for organisations and the natural environment.

This training includes:

  1. Introduction to systems thinking (scientific background)
  2. How to inquire into a complicated and complex system (explorations)
  3. Introduction to design thinking (tools)
  4. Examples of systems and design thinking: circular economy, permaculture and organisations (testing your skills)
  5. Don’t overcomplicate (knowing what rules your system)

Your facilitator:

Manuel Löffler is a team development and embodiment coach. He works with individuals and groups to make sure they don’t waste time, resources or people’s potential. Born in Germany, he studied and worked abroad - from small businesses, NGOs and universities to big corporates. He has a background in environmental sciences, circular economy, application counselling, human resources and organizational development. His own applications of systems thinking have been in social enterprise, corporate health and designing gardens.

Transitioning from student to working life: how to care for yourself (online workshop)

This hands-on, discussion-based workshop focuses on self-care practices essential for a sustainable and successful transition from university to the professional world. Students will learn the step-by-step process of self-care, with a focus on maintaining well-being during student life and beyond. Each session begins with mindful meditation, followed by interactive activities and discussions aimed at fostering a growth mindset. Emphasis is placed on mental health and developing critical thinking skills, with space for reflection and compassionate pauses when needed.

Methods: meditation, goal setting & initial reflection, self-care break and self-care plan

Taught by:

Dr. Courtney Dorroll is a dedicated educator and Associate Professor of Religion at Wofford College in Spartanburg, South Carolina. She teaches courses on Middle Eastern studies as well as ethnography and self-care, and she dedicates her scholarly studies to the scholarship of teaching and learning, finding ways to make classrooms more inclusive and sustainable, and self-care as a form of leadership and a pedagogical approach.

She received her B.A. from Purdue University, her M.A. from Indiana University and her Ph.D. from the University of Arizona. Outside of the classroom, she enjoys practicing yoga, mindful meditation, walking, and spending quality time with her toddler, Liv.

Axel Wehrle, most recently Director Customer Service at Virgin Media O2 in London, studied Contemporary History and Rhetoric at the University of Tübingen (Class of 1999). Axel has 20 years of experience in customer service and is called upon by large companies when they need to improve and change their service departments. In his work, he puts the needs of customers at the center of company processes. His goal is to transform large organizations into high-performance, customer-centric units, anticipate trends, develop employees and generate enthusiasm. Previous positions include Telefónica Germany, Amazon, General Motors and 1&1 Versatel.

How to write CVs and cover letters

In this workshop, participants will learn to write resumes / CVs and cover letters in English for applying to international companies. In our first meeting, we will discuss key issues concerning style and goal-oriented writing. Against this background, in our second meeting students will evaluate each other’s resumes/ CVs and cover letters and benefit from mutual feedback. In the third meeting, students will receive individual feedback from the instructor on the final version of their resumes/ CVs and cover letters.

Participants should be willing to prepare their own documents between meetings. By the end of this workshop, participants will have developed practical skills for writing and evaluating resumes/ CVs and cover letters in English. Moreover, their own writing will be corrected and commented on by a native speaker of American English.
