While in Tubingen, I plan to research the impact of the movement of people away from Rome and Italy over the course of the fifth- century, especially in the wake of the Vandal Occupation of Rome in 455.  My particular focus will be on the movement of elite women and their role in negotiating conflict during times of warfare and upheaval in the fifth century, and continuing into the sixth-century in the wake of the Gothic War.
