China: Knowns and Unknowns
“China: Knowns and Unknowns” (China: Wissen und Nichtwissen) is a new project at the China Centre Tübingen. It explores not only how knowledge about China is created and shared, but also how individuals–––including experts–––navigate through what remains unknown. Introducing the concept of gaining “ignorance proficiency” (Ignoranzkompetenz), this project addresses that dealing with uncertainty and unknowns is as essential as acquiring knowledge, especially when dealing with China.
This project invites reflection on how the boundaries between knowing and not-knowing are shaped by cultural, social, and local contexts through workshops, lectures, and exhibitions. It also seeks to foster a dialogue on how we can learn with and from each other in confronting the limits of our knowledge.
