Liu Kuo-Yi was born in Taichung, Taiwan. She received B.S. and M.A.H.P. (in Architecture and Historic Preservation) degrees from Shu-Te University and started her PhD studies since 2011. Her current position is Ph.D. Candidate. The dissertation title is “The Analysis of the Current Global Strategies for the Governance of Refugees: Historical and Global Perspectives.

My research interest is about the problems of refugees around the world, particularly on German policy dealing with the refugees.  When hundreds of thousands of refugees made their way into Europe in August and September 2015, German Chancellor Angela Merkel decided to engage in an open-door policy toward the newcomers.  This welcoming policy toward asylum-seekers aroused related criticism and the conflict in political, economic, social and cultural dimensions.  My study plans to travel to Germany to visit nearby refugees who study German in the University.  I would like to know about the refugees' thoughts and the German refugee policy.  I also plan to visit refugee camps to gain a real understanding of the operation of the refugee activities.
