Ssu-Han is a PhD candidate at Department of Media and Communications, London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). Before joining LSE, she worked as a research assistant with Dr Yu-chan Chiu at the National Taiwan University on health and risk communication projects funded by Ministry of Science and Technology, Taiwan. Their research has published in Health, Risk & Society, Chinese Journal of Communication Research, and Journal of Communication and Development. At LSE, Ssu-Han worked with Professor Sonia Livingstone and Dr Mariya Stoilova on the Global Kids Online project which investigates children’s internet use across more than ten countries. Her concern with young members of society is also exemplified in her PhD project which focuses on examining how young people and their parents understand and engage in democratic politics, investigating the role of media in shaping political generations. Specifically, the project is a critical analysis of the Sunflower Generation (太陽花世代, tai yang hua shih dai) through the lens of Karl Mannheim’s generation theory and Roger Silverstone’s concept of mediation.
