During the lab course basic geomicrobiological and molecular biology techniques will be taught (first week) and applied during a research project (second week). The course will be held for two weeks every summer semester (September/October).
Content:
- Cultivation of microorganisms
- Tracking microbial growth via optical density and flow cytometry
- Microscopic characterization via fluorescence and scanning electron microscopy
- Investigation of microbial mineral (trans)formation
- Molecular biological methods (DNA extraction, qPCR)
- Active participation in a current research project of the Geomicrobiology research group
The 2021 Lab Course will be held as a 2-week block course from 4 October to 15 October. Interested students are invited to contact Dr. Muammar Mansor (muammar.muammar-bin-mansorspam prevention@uni-tuebingen.de) and Prof. Dr. Andreas Kappler (andreas.kapplerspam prevention@uni-tuebingen.de). Registration can be done via ALMA and Moodle (https://moodle.zdv.uni-tuebingen.de/course/view.php?id=1385).
