Philip Hayward is editor of the journal Shima and is an adjunct professor in the School of Communication at University of Technology, Sydney (Australia). He has written widely on island and maritime cultures - see - and has held visiting research professorships at Kansai University and Kagoshima University (Japan) and University of New Orleans (USA). He  is currently working on research projects with Wakayama University Centre for Tourism, Japan, and with researchers from the Research Institute for Digital and Cultural Heritage at Ca Foscari University, Venice, Italy.
