Biography
Mikko Kuisma studied Political Science at the University of Birmingham (BSocSc 2000; PhD 2004). After his PhD he held an ESRC Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at the University of Birmingham (2004), worked as Lecturer in European Politics at Aberystwyth University (2005) and as Jean Monnet Fellow at the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies at the European University Institute in Florence (2005-2006). Before joining the University of Tübingen, Mikko was Senior Lecturer in International Relations at Oxford Brookes University (2006-2017).
Research Interests
Mikko’s research interests lie in the comparative politics and political economy of (mainly European) welfare states, with a special interest in the role of ideas and identity, as expressed in/through political discourse, in welfare capitalism. Other related research interests include European populist radical right parties, new institutional theory, citizenship theory and Nordic politics.
