Research Unit Political and Cultural Education

Welcome to the Research Unit Political and Cultural Education

The team of the research unit “Political and Cultural Education” is dedicated to researching educational science questions in the context of far right extremism. In addition to the conditions under which far-right lifeworlds develop, the focus is on ways of preventing and safeguarding democratic everyday culture. Our research thus focuses on individual processes of learning and unlearning, on questions of pedagogical practice, and also on sociopolitical conditions.

A particular focus is on the study of "processes of affiliation" with (far-)right lifeworlds. For this purpose, we work with a reconstructive and/or praxeological perspective. This approach to a sociology of knowledge aims to take into account not only everyday motives but also the role of ideologies in such processes of turning toward far-right lifeworlds.

Our research always places a strong emphasis on gender-reflective questions. These questions are fundamental — whether in the analysis of far-right ideologies and lifeworlds, in the reconstruction of processes of turning toward or away from them, or in pedagogical practice.

You can find detailed information about our joint and individual research projects on our research page. Feel free to contact us for further information.
