Memory of the Present – Witnessing in Therapy and Counselling. Third symposium of the ‘SUPPORT’ project

OFEK e.V. symposium in Berlin on 21 and 22 October, featuring Friederike Lorenz-Sinai

This year, the third symposium of the ‘SUPPORT’ project is devoted to the relationship between the present and Jewish memory, in which bearing witness is understood as a social practice.
In Jewish traditions, the act of recounting and passing on experiences is of central importance – as a practice of remembrance, belonging and continuity. At the same time, the conference draws on narrative traditions in psychotherapy, in which biographical reconstruction and bearing witness are understood as forms of psychological processing. Particularly in the context of rising anti-Semitism, recounting one’s own experiences can contribute to stability, social visibility and the restoration of a sense of connection.

The conference is aimed at professionals working in the fields of psychology, psychotherapy, psychosocial work and education, as well as anyone interested in exploring the themes of memory, testimony and anti-Semitism.

When and where?
21 and 22 October 2026 in Berlin (details of the venue will be provided once registration has been confirmed).

On 22 October at 10.30 am, Prof. Dr Friederike Lorenz-Sinai will be discussing the module DENKRAUM: Wounded Present – Practices of Remembering the Present.
