Misogyny leads to political violence

An interview with Prof. Dr Cynthia Miller-Idris in the Austrian daily newspaper Die Presse

Prof. Dr Cynthia Miller-Idriss, an American sociologist and Professor of Public Affairs and Education (at American University in Washington D.C.), is currently affiliated with our Institute for Research on Right-Wing Extremism.

Her book “Man Up: The New Misogyny and the Rise of Violent Extremism” was published in 2025 by Princeton University Press. The German translation, “Die Wut der Männer: Manosphere, Misogynie und die Explosion rechtsextremer Gewalt” (Men’s Anger: The Manosphere, Misogyny and the Explosion of Right-Wing Extremist Violence), is due to be published on 14 April 2027 by DVA.

In an interview with the Austrian national daily newspaper Die Presse, she discusses masculinity, femonationalism and the empirical link between misogyny and far-right violence. She explains “why contempt for women and misogyny are on the rise in the US, including within the Trump administration. And why, overall, the gender divide is widening.”
