Reading Weekend on ʿAbd al-Ghanī al-Nābulusī's texts

Prof. Dr. Lejla Demiri, together with Prof. Dr. Astrid Meier (University of Halle-Wittenberg) and Prof. Dr. Samuela Pagani (Università del Salento), organized a Reading Weekend entitled "Old Texts, New Readings: Exegesis and Creativity in Early Modern Islamic Theology" in Tübingen on 30/31 August 2019. The participants read and discussed texts by ʿAbd al-Ghanī al-Nābulusī (1641-1731), who was a central figure for almost all areas of Islamic theology in Ottoman Syria.

Fifteen international scholars from different disciplines came together to examine al-Nābulusī's texts from historical, literary, and theological perspectives. The Reading Weekend format of working directly with the texts in a small group proved very fruitful, and a publication of the results is in prospect. We thank the Academy for Islam in Science and Society (AIWG), whose sponsorship made the Reading Weekend possible.
