Born on the 26th of August, 1953 Karmendu Shishir teaches Hindi at B. D. Evening College (Magadh University), Patna. From his student days, he actively participated in peasant-worker leftwing politics. He is associated with the Pragatishīl Lekhak Sangh (Progressive Writers Association) as well as a trustee of “Philhāl”, Patna (journal and trust). His discovery and scholarly editions of almost forgotten works of the thinker and activist Rādhāmohan Gokul (1865-1935), old files of Hindi journal Sārsudhānidhi of 19th century and Matvālā etc. (see rare literary magazines section of the Shodhāgār) has given a new depth to the debate on characterization of the history of Hindi Navjāgaraṇ between 1875 and 1940.
