Admission Process

Admission to the Master of Arts Program in Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies is handled by the University of Tübingen Office of Student Affairs. Please refer to the instructions available on the online application portal. To gain admission, you will need to provide your Bachelor's degree and a complete transcript of records from your previous studies in either German or English, as well as a proof of your English language skills. Requirements

The M.A. program "Islamwissenschaft / Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies" at the University of Tübingen requires an appropriate Bachelor's degree in the same discipline ("konsekutiver Studiengang") with an overall grade of 2.5 or higher. Whether entry with a Bachelor's degree in a similar program is possible will be evaluated by a commission case-by-case and may be accepted through recognition of equivalence ("Äquivalenzanerkennung"). Criteria include methods and approaches from the Humanities as well as survey courses in History and Civilisations of the Middle East. Additionally, it is required that you provide proof of sufficient knowledge of our main source language Arabic, at a reading level of B2 or higher or the equivalency of 20 contact hours of academic language training.

Applications are reviewed thoroughly by the faculty to ensure prospective students' adequate familiarity with our core curriculum.
