Chair of Psycholinguistics and Applied Language Studies

Psycholinguistics is the scientific study of the psychology of language. It gets to the central issue of what we humans do with language. How we acquire languages, store linguistic knowledge in our brain, and use it for producing and understanding language are fundamental questions in understanding human behavior. In addition to important theoretical insights, psycholinguistic research has a clear application orientation, including how foreign languages can be taught effectively and how developmental and acquired language disorders can be treated. Thus, in addition to an academic career, studying psycholinguistics ensures various professional career paths outside of academia. For our research team, we have laboratories equipped with eye tracking systems, recording studios, and reaction time set-ups, as well as offsite EEG access via the SFB 833.
