CIN-NIPS Symposia
In November 2012, the CIN signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the National Institute of Physiological Sciences (NIPS) in Okasaki, Japan. The aim is to foster scientific cooperation and joint funding applications.
Ever since the CIN and NIPS first held a joint symposium in Okasaki in February 2012, there had been a keen interest in deepening and extending collaborative ties between the two institutions. This bore fruit when a second joint NIPS/CIN symposium was held in Tübingen in November 2012. On this occasion, the chiefs of both institutions signed the Memorandum of Understanding. This has since become the basis for far-reaching intercontinental exchange on the common fundament of the pursuit of neuroscientific insight. Annual joint symposia and mutual visits have led to several cooperatively developed research projects, which provide great opportunities to established and junior researchers alike.

CIN-NIPS Symposia: Past Events
The 10th Okazaki-Tuebingen-Beijing Symposium
March 7, 2022 - March 10, 2022
We were very happy to host the tenth CIN-NIPS Systems Neuroscience Symposium this year, which took place on March 7 and March 10, 2022. The event was online this time due to the pandemic situation, but it represents a continuous tradition of bilateral symposia between our institute and the National Institute for Physiological Sciences in Okazaki, Japan.
The symposium featured 20 speakers not just from the CIN and NIPS, as was traditionally the case, but also from Shanghai, Peking, and Kyoto. The symposium also featured a variety of topics, from social communication to motor control and novel methodologies. There were many engaged discussions of state-of-the-art science being done at the different institutes.
The inclusion of additional asian participants beyond our NIPS colleagues was very interesting, and it made the name of “CIN-NIPS-Asia Pacific Systems Neuroscience Symposium” more apt for the event.
We look forward to hosting our Asian colleagues in real life next year.

The 9th Okazaki-Tuebingen-Beijing Symposium

This year’s meeting was the ninth one of its kind, demonstrating strong bilateral interactions between our institute, the Werner Reichardt Centre for Integrative Neuroscience (CIN), and the National Institute for Physiological Sciences in Okazaki, Japan (NIPS). This year, the meeting was extended to become trilateral, since colleagues from Beijing University also joined us in Okazaki.
The meeting featured strong research from all institutes involved, and the topics ranged from neurophysiology to imaging, human perception, and computational modelling.
