PhD position on Transcription-Activator Like Effectors (TALEs) from the bacterial pathogen Ralstonia
One PhD position is available at the Centre for Plant Molecular Biology (ZMBP) a leading international centre for plant molecular research that hosts numerous research groups investigating plant-microbe interactions.
The PhD project aims to elucidate the mechanistic basis of how a Transcription-Activator Like Effector (TALE) protein of the bacterial pathogen Ralstonia solanacearum manipulates plant metabolism to favour the spread of the bacterial pathogen. Experience with work in the field of plant-microbe interaction is an advantage, but not essential. Applicants must have a Master's degree in molecular biology or biochemistry. Candidates should be creative, willing to be an independent researcher and able to work collaboratively in a team. Candidates must have good communication skills and be fluent in written and spoken English.
Salary will be within the TV-L E13 65%.
The position can start at any time and will be available until the end of 2025.
The PhD candidate will be integrated in the ZMBP graduate program.

Research
The newly established BM2 lab is an interdisciplinary research group at the interface of physics, biology and computer science interested in understanding morphogenesis, bio-mechanics and how they interact in living systems, mostly plants. We do so by developing and using ad-hoc computational tools (MorphoMechanX) which enable us to provide explanatory and predictive scenarios for real biological problems (provided by our partner labs).
Your profile
We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with excellent written and oral English, good communication and teamwork skills, who can work independently and in a goal-oriented manner. The ideal candidate should have a MSc or equivalent in a field connected to computational science (i.e. physics, mathematics, computer science, engineering, computational biology…). Strong mathematical and analytical skills are required as well as some programming experience, while initial exposure to Finite Element Methods would be a plus.
The candidate will be enrolled in a doctoral program offered by the University of Tübingen.

A PhD position (initially 3 years) is available in our laboratory in the Center for Plant Molecular Biology (ZMBP), at the University of Tübingen (Germany). The position is available starting November 2023.
Research
Our newly established research group studies mechanisms plants use, to control the timing of cell fate transitions. During plant development complex organs are formed with meticulously patterned cell identities. However, none of the embryonically specified cells differentiate before germination and their ‘master regulators’ are unable to induce differentiation (for more background see Smit et al. 2023 Dev Cell). In general, we are interested in plant development, cell identity, and pattern formation.
Your profile
We are looking for a curiosity-driven, highly motivated candidate with good communication and teamwork skills who can work independently in a goal-oriented manner. The candidate should have an MSc or equivalent in plant biology or biochemistry (or similar) and training in molecular biology. Excellent English written and oral skills are required, previous experience with Arabidopsis thaliana and confocal microscopy are a plus. The candidate will join the ZMBP graduate program that offers a broad interdisciplinary training in the molecular life sciences.

Master and or Bachelor Thesis in Plant Pathogen Interactions (RG El Kasmi)
Our research group in the Department for Plant Physiology at the Center for Plant Molecular Biology (ZMBP), University of Tübingen, is offering the possibility for a highly motivated Master and or Bachelor (of Biology, Biochemistry or Cellular Nanoscience) student to do her/his thesis project in our lab.
We are currently working on the characterization of interactors of a plant immune receptor of the NLR family. We would like to validate the preliminary results (interactions observed in yeast-2-hybrid screen) and to further cell biologically, genetically and biochemically characterize the function of the identified proteins during (NLR-mediated) immunity.
The project will include the following methods:
• Molecular analysis (cloning, bacterial transformation, etc.)
• In planta Protein-protein interaction studies (co-immunoprecipitation, BiFC and FRET interaction assays)
• Genetic studies (crosses, genotyping, etc.)
• Plant infection assays

Our research group in the Department for Plant Biochemistry at the Center for Plant Molecular Biology (ZMBP), University of Tübingen, is seeking highly motivated Master and Bachelor students.
Our department is working on the characterization of plant immunity receptors and their regulators, as well as downstream signaling pathways.
Projects generally include the following methods:
