Yana's Forschung konzentriert sich auf die Erholung verschiedener Arten von Ökosystemen nach Wetterextremen wie Hitzewellen und Dürren von der zweiten Hälfte des 20 Jahrhunderts bis heute. Diese Forschung wird im Rahmen der P. Schwartz-Initiative durchgeführt. Yana ist auch Mitglied der Nationalen Forschungsdateninfrastruktur für Erdsystemwissenschaften (NFDI4E). Zu ihren Forschungsinteressen gehören statistische Datenverarbeitung und Datenbankdesign.
