Der Fachinformationsdienst (FID) Theologie wird von der Universitätsbibliothek Tübingen betreut. Mit dem Angebot des Index Theologicus ( IxTheo ) bietet er den schnellen Zugriff auf forschungsrelevante Informationen und standortunabhängig einen möglichst schnellen und direkten Zugriff auf Spezialliteratur.
Der FID Theologie erstellt eine umfassende Bibliographie für das Fach Theologie. Die umfassende inhaltliche Erschließung ermöglicht eine gezielte thematische Recherche. Elektronisch vorhandene Werke sind über die Datenbank direkt zugänglich.
Der FID Theologie orientiert sein Sammelprofil primär an der Bibliographie, sekundär an einer Last-Resort-Funktion (Anschaffung von Werken, die sonst in Deutschland nicht vorhanden sind).

Der FID Theologie bietet Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftlern aus der Theologie im Rahmen der Möglichkeiten des Urheberrechts einen Zweitveröffentlichungsservice an. Dabei übernimmt der FID die Digitalisierung, Katalogisierung und Zweitveröffentlichung auf dem Fachrepositorium Theologie.

Im Rahmen des DFG-Projektes „DigiTheo_5“ werden 71 theologische Zeitschriften bis zurück zu ihrem Gründungsjahr digitalisiert und auf Artikel- und Rezensionsebene erschlossen. Jedes der beteiligten Periodika wird zudem eine eigenständige Website mit zugehöriger URL auf Basis der Plattform Open Journal Systems (OJS) haben.
Der Beirat setzt sich aus zehn Vertreterinnen und Vertretern der theologischen Fachcommunity zusammen (je fünf Personen aus der evangelischen und aus der katholischen Theologie). Darunter sind die Dekaninnen und Dekane der beiden Tübinger theologischen Fakultäten sowie der Vorsitzende der Wissenschaftlichen Gesellschaft für Theologie (evangelisch) und der Sprecher der theologischen Arbeitsgemeinschaften (katholisch).
