Doctorate

Do you already have an undergraduate degree in Catholic Theology and want to take a doctorate (Dr. theol.)? Or do you want to acquire the title of licentiate in theology (Lic. theol.)? Tübingen offers the ideal conditions for this, as can be seen by the many doctoral students at our faculty. Besides first-class teaching, Tübingen offers one of the world’s best collections of theological literature with the special collection of the main University Library and the library that is shared by the Faculties of Catholic and of Protestant Theology.

Doctoral degree regulations

Please note: As of December 14, 2021, new doctoral degree regulations (A.B.d.U.T. 2021, No. 29, p. 704-722) came into effect. Doctoral students who have started their doctoral studies in accordance with the doctoral degree regulations of July 15, 2014, and continue their doctoral studies in accordance with these doctoral degree regulations or who wish to apply to commence the doctoral qualification process, must send an appropriate application to the doctoral studies committee in accordance with Section 24(2) of the new doctoral degree regulations.

‘Old’ doctoral degree regulations (valid July 15, 2014 – December 13, 2021)

Doctoral students who have started their doctoral studies in accordance with the doctoral degree regulations of July 15, 2014, and continue their doctoral studies in accordance with these doctoral degree regulations, or who wish to apply to commence the doctoral qualification process, must send an appropriate application to the doctoral studies committee in accordance with Section 24(2) of the new doctoral degree regulations.
