Chun Xu is a historian of late imperial China. His recent research focuses on how bureaucratic institutions produced, processed, and used data from the Song through Ming dynasties. Of particular importance to his analysis is the strategic production of non-knowledge and institutional ignorance that was central to administrative practices and state-building processes in imperial China.
