The special library of the Department of Indology is an extensive library with holdings of around 26,000 volumes, tailored to the needs of teaching and research.
It is located in the Brechtbau building.
The Indology stocks are there at two locations:

1. Within the Brecht Building library, there on the 2nd floor, Books beginning with call numbers

AOI Libraries catalogue

This catalogue is an excerpt from the University Library catalogue and contains only the stock of the AOI Department libraries (Anthropology, Indology, Japanese studies, Korean studies, Oriental- and Islamic studies, Chinese studies) but with better research and display functions for original characters!

This catalogue should therefore be used primarily when searching for original characters!

In the library areas in the basement and 2nd floor there are modern devices for photocopying, printing and scanning.  Quick start guide

The devices belong to Morgenstern Company, which is responsible for service and maintenance of the devices.
Telephone number for problems and complaints: 29-74625 oder 0800-267378423 (please make sure to provide the number of the copy machine). Employees of the company are also available to anser your questions from Monday to Friday between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. in the University Library, Ammerbau, Room A 326.

Payment

Payment is made via the monetary function fo the Student-, Staff-, Library- oder Guestcard. We would like to point out that the prices are calculated by the service provider and that the library has no influence on them.

A Guest card can be purchased in the Cafeteria on the ground floor as well as from the Machine in the Foyer of the University Library main building (located by the lockers) and at the InfoPoints des Studentenwerks for 10 Euros (5 Euros credit + 5 Euro deposit). Cards that are no longer required can be returned at the InfoPoints, where deposit and remaining credit will be paid back.

The Tuebingen University Library has one of the most extensive collections of South Asian literature in Europe with the former special collection area for South Asia (now: "Specialised Information Service for Asian Studies in South Asia"). It was located in Tuebingen until December 2004 and was transferred to Heidelberg University in January 2005, where it is located until now.
The library holdings collected at Tuebingen University library before December, 31, 2004 remain in Tuebingen.
 

The Gundert Portal offers worldwide free access to the complete digitisation of the estate of Hermann Gundert at the University Library of Tuebingen. It contains printed and lithographed books and pamphlets in Malayalam, Kannada, Tulu, Tamil, Telugu, Sansksrit, and other languages, Indian manuscripts including some palm leaf manuscripts, copies of texts and notebooks in various languages by Hermann Gundert and his missionary colleagues.
The digitalisation also included all works in South Indian languages from the 19th century that are in the holdings of the University Library - even if they do not belong to Hermann Gundert's legacy directly.
English- and German-language material from the pen of Gundert and his closest collaborators was added.

A total of 849 titles, including 142 manuscripts, with a total of 137,148 pages were digitised. In Addition, nearly 24,000 pages were transcribed into machinereadable Malayalam by Shiju Alex and the members of the ‚Kerala Archives Interest Group‘. The learning module for Indological Literature Correctly Searching and Finding was developed at our Department of Indology in cooperation with the University Library of Tuebingen. The Module has been online since February 28, 2008.
Prof. Dr. Heike Oberlin and Dr. Gabriele Zeller (UB Tübingen) worked together with students on this open source eLearning module for two semesters as part of the IT for Indologigists course - and since then the result is available to all interested parties.
The course should be particularly helpful in introductory events for freshmen. It was created primarily by students and for students. Suggestions for improvement are always welcome.
Primarily designed for new students in Tuebingen, the examples relate to our Departmental library, the University Library of Tuebingen and the on-site computing center (ZDV). However, most of the information is of general nature and can easily be transferred to any other university's structure.
