Journalistin Approach on AfD: „You have to perfectly prepared"
taz interview with PD Dr. Rolf Frankenberger on May 6, 2024
Director Dr. Rolf Frankenberger in an interview with the daily newspaper taz about the AfD and the media's coverage of the party
“Within the circles of the AfD, the New Right, and the Identitarian Movement, there is an extremely high level of media literacy and targeted training on how to use these media.”
“Last but not least, it’s important to see which issues the AfD is dominating. Which ones could be addressed differently so that the AfD doesn’t gain a foothold there? Take migration, for example. What other positions and discourses exist in that area that might be much more relevant to society than those dominated by the AfD? We must not let the AfD set the agenda on issues that it then sensationalizes, causing everyone else to follow suit.”
“There are also movements, groups, associations, and small parties even further to the right of the AfD that deserve coverage. In addition, there is the Werteunion, a party that positions itself to the right of the CDU/CSU and should therefore be covered by the media and viewed critically. This is because far-right ideology tends to spread into other circles and seeks to gain traction within conservatism and the middle class. And last but not least, we also find elements of exclusionary ideologies on the left. So we need to take a broader view and recognize and name developments in a timely manner.”
