Facilities of the Archaeo and Paleogenetics Group

Our laboratories are fully equipped to perform sampling, extraction, library preparation and capture of ancient DNA. We operate two fully operational molecular biology laboratories, one of which is a dedicated ancient DNA “clean room” used to reduce the risk of present-day DNA contamination while handling unique ancient specimens. The facilities include a range of specialised instruments such as a 96-well Liquidator, a Spectrophotometer, an automated electrophoresis machine, a Real-Time PCR machine and a number of Thermal-Cyclers for DNA handling and quantification. Next Generation Sequencing is performed in partner sequencing centres. The analysis of genomic data is conducted on a high-performance computing cluster and linked to a storage system owned by the Archaeo- and Palaeogenetics group in the Institute for Archaeological Sciences and Senckenberg Centre for Human Evolution and Palaeoenvironment at the University of Tübingen.
