In meiner Forschung untersuche ich, wie Menschen ihre (visuelle) Umwelt wahrnehmen, repräsentieren und mit ihr interagieren. Dabei konzentriere ich mich auf Ereigniskognition, Mensch-Roboter-Interaktion, das visuelle Arbeitsgedächtnis und die visuelle Aufmerksamkeit. In meiner Arbeit zur Ereigniskognition untersuche ich sowohl Einflussfaktoren auf die Segmentierung der dynamischen Umwelt in Ereignisse als auch die kognitiven Konsequenzen der Repräsentation von Ereignissen, beispielsweise in Form des Auffüllens von kausal passenden Informationen, die in der Umwelt nicht vorhanden waren (Event Completion). Im Bereich der Mensch-Roboter-Interaktion konzentriere ich mich auf soziale Roboter und Hilfsszenarien, wie beispielsweise den Einfluss von Bystandern auf die Bereitschaft von Menschen, hilfsbedürftigen Robotern zu helfen (z. B. weil sie stecken geblieben sind). Bezogen auf das visuelle Arbeitsgedächtnis beschäftige ich mich einerseits mit Cognitive Offloading, also dem Auslagern von Inhalten und Prozessen in externe Hilfsmittel wie Tablets, und andererseits mit der Repräsentation und Aktualisierung von Kontextinformationen im Arbeitsgedächtnis, beispielsweise in Form von räumlichen Konfigurationen. Weiterhin erforsche ich, wie Menschen ihre Aufmerksamkeit in ihrer dynamischen Umwelt steuern, sowohl bezogen auf das Verfolgen mehrere bewegter Objekte (Multiple Object Tracking) als auch die Verteilung ihrer Blickbewegungen.
