Research Project: Status Sacer: A Proposal for a Taiwanese International Relations Theory |
Chia-Yu Liang is a doctoral candidate in International Relations at the University of Sussex. His doctoral project is entitled “The Politics of Return of Tianxia (All-under-Heaven) in Modern China.” His thesis examines the transition from imperial China and the PRC, focusing on the conceptualisation of Chinese Nation for the legitimate state succession, which facilitated the identification with the past tianxia empires. He graduated from National Taiwan University with a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology and from the University of Essex with a Master’s degree in Film and Literature. He is a research fellow of the Centre for Contextual Theology in Taiwan. Before his doctoral project, he participated in activism promoting public philosophy in Taiwan. His research interests include comparative political theories, political theologies, global conceptual history, empire studies, and Sinophone studies.
