Vishnupriyaa Pulickel Sajeevu joined the department of Indology as a doctoral researcher in December 2022. Her topic of research is "Role of Women in Kūṭiyāṭṭaṃ: A study in Retrospect and Prospect". Kūṭiyāṭṭaṃ is an ancient theatre form from Kerala, which has deep roots embedded in Sanskrit literature. In the three stages (Performance, manual writing, and Sanskrit texts) of the development of a Kūṭiyāṭṭaṃ performance, female presences have been considerably increasing. Particular emphasis is placed on the representation of women in ancient Indian literature and the role of women in both manual writing and performance. In this study, the variations that female characters reveal when they are perceived by male and female artists/ scholars are also examined.
Vishnupriyaa completed both her Masters (2021) and Bachelors (2019) degrees in Sanskrit General from Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit, Kerala, India. Later she worked as a teaching assistant at the same University for 4 months.
