Studienkolleg 2026-2027

Selected students and doctoral researchers from all disciplines take part in a program of seminars and talks and work in small interdisciplinary teams on their own research projects. The Studienkolleg offers participants the space and intellectual freedom to step outside the usual academic routines. There are no exams or grades. Instead, participants develop their own ideas, pursue questions across disciplinary boundaries, and learn from one another while exploring the annual theme “The Individual and the Aggregate”. This year we ask how different fields move from individuals to aggregates and what allows us to return from aggregate knowledge to an individual case.

The Studienkolleg is supported by the University of Tübingen and the Udo Keller Stiftung Forum Humanum.

All PhD-candidates & students at Tübingen University are welcome to submit an application for the Studienkolleg on The Individual and the Aggregate.

The application should include:

• An approx. half to one page letter of motivation in german or english
• CV

ECTS Credits and Program Allowance

The Studienkolleg complements participants' studies or the PhD in their respective disciplines. participants can earn 12 ECTS credits, six per semester. The Studienkolleg is generally recognized within the relevant modules of the Bachelor and Master Programs at Tübingen University. In general, recognition is subject to the regulations of the relevant examination offices. Participants must be enrolled at the University of Tübingen throughout the program year.

The Tübingen Forum for Science and Humanities (TFW) provides each participant with a program allowance of €250 per semester to support their participation in the Studienkolleg. The TFW also covers all program-related costs.

Program Overview & Core Elements

The program brings participants together for regular talks and discussions, two weekend seminars, and collaborative project work in small interdisciplinary teams throughout the academic year.

Duration: October 2026 - July 2027
Kick-off Weekend: 30. October – 01. November 2026, Improvisation-Theater, Ev. Stift Bad Urach. See here for more.
Wednesday Sessions: During the semester, 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Talks by invited scholars and researchers from different disciplines alternate with seminars and group discussions, followed by food & drinks for free.
Two Weekend Seminars: Early February and mid-April 2027
Interdisciplinary Project Groups: Throughout the academic year, participants work in small interdisciplinary teams on their research questions and project of their own.
Final Project Presentations: End of July 2027.
Early Career Publication Opportunity: Project groups have the opportunity to publish their results in an edited volume by Tübingen Library Press (TLP).
