Studienkolleg 2026-2027 

The Individual and the Aggregate

Selected students and doctoral researchers from all disciplines take part in a program of seminars and talks and work in small interdisciplinary teams on their own research projects. The Studienkolleg offers the space and intellectual freedom to explore the annual theme The Individual and the Aggregate through interdisciplinary exchange and collaboration.

The Studienkolleg is supported by the University of Tübingen and the Udo Keller Stiftung Forum Humanum.

Program Overview & Core Elements

  • Duration: Winter Semester 2026/2027 & Summer Semester 2027
  • Kick-off Weekend, 30. October – 01. November, 2026 (Friday Afternoon to early Sunday afternoon). Location: Evangelisches Stift Bad Urach
  • Wednesday Sessions (during the semester): 6:00–8:00 p.m.: Talks from renowned scientists from various disciplines + Seminars and Discussions in the Studienkolleg Group + Food & Drinks afterwards

  • Two Weekend Seminars (Beginning of February and Mid April 2026)

  • Project Groups: Throughout the academic year, participants work in interdisciplinary groups on their own research or project topics.
  • Final Project Presentation, end of July 2027.
  • Publication Opportunity: Project group results can be published in an edited volume by Tübingen Library Press (TLP) in autumn 2028.

Support

Studienkolleg: ECTS Credits and Program Allowance

The Studienkolleg complements participants' studies or PhD in their respective disciplines. participants can earn 12 ECTS credits, six per semester. The Studienkolleg is generally recognized within the relevant modules of the Bachelor and Master Programs at Tübingen University. In general, recognition is subject to the regulations of the relevant examination offices. Participants must be enrolled at the University of Tübingen throughout the program year.

The Tübingen Forum for Science and Humanities (TFW) provides each participant with a program allowance of €250 per semester to support their engagement  in the Studienkolleg. The TFW also covers all program-related costs.

All PhD-candidates & students at Tübingen University are welcome to submit an application for the Studienkolleg on The Individual and the Aggregate! 

The application should include:

• An approx. half to one page letter of motivation (in german or english)
• CV
