In April 2022, the junior professorship has been established in the context of the Global Encounters platform as part of the University of Tübingen excellence stategy. The research focus of “Political Struggles in the Global South” is set on the Rights of Nature (RoN) and indigenous peoples’ ontologies in Latin America. Scaling-up insights on indigenous peoples’ understandings of nature and how these are mobilised in resistance to projects of resource extraction, development or conservation imposed on their territories, the aim is to explore the political potential of RoN in the Global South as well as in global climate activism.

Workshop: The Dark Sides of Rights of Nature

12 - 13 February 2026, Universitity of Tübingen

The workshop critically examines the “dark sides” of the Rights of Nature by bringing together perspectives from the Global South and North to explore their political, legal, and ideological entanglements with coloniality, right-wing extremism, nationalism, and contemporary power relations in Europe and Latin America.

In collaboration with Prof. Renata Tyszczuk and her team from the University of Sheffield, we begin the project Re-Staging Climate Assemblies (KF25\100465).
