Environmental Biotechnology Group

Our Environmental Biotechnology Group is located in the Geo and Environmental Research Center (GUZ) at the University of Tuebingen.

We investigate the use of microbes in engineered systems to make conversions, such as the conversion of wasted organic materials and industrial off-gases into useful products.  Our Group consists of the Angenent Lab, Molitor Lab, Ortiz Lab, Stouten Lab, and Schmitz Lab. We are interdisciplinary and combine bioprocess/environmental engineering with microbiology and biochemistry, including metagenomics/proteomics and systems biology/metabolic engineering.

We work with B.Sc.-, M.Sc.-, and Ph.D. students to provide them with a safe environment to explore and grow their interests and abilities. We mentor students to be creative, critical, and innovative, while we also work closely with post-doctoral associates to become independent researchers.

Lars Angenent was filmed and interviewed for a tv program on renewable technologies (Plan B) on ZDF.
