On Tuesday, June 24, 2025, Prof. Dr. Michael Schüßler will read from his new book “Es kommt was ins Rutschen. Eine theologische Reise an die Kipppunkte der Gegenwart” published in May. The event will take place at the Coworking Space “AnknüpfBar” in Böblingen (Dekanatshaus D12, Sindelfinger Str. 12).

A Meet & Greet will begin at 6:00 PM, followed by the reading and a conversation with the author starting at 7:00 PM. The evening will be moderated by Annegret Hiekisch.

On May 8, 2025, an academic celebration was held at the Faculty of Catholic Theology at the University of Tübingen to mark the 80th birthday of Prof. em. Dr. Ottmar Fuchs. In a festive setting, colleagues and longtime companions paid tribute to the diverse theological work and lasting scholarly significance of the emeritus Professor of Practical Theology.

In front of well over 100 guests, including numerous former colleagues and prominent church representatives — among them the emeritus Bishop Dr. Gebhard Fürst and Auxiliary Bishops Matthäus Karrer, Thomas Maria Renz, and Dr. Gerhard Schneider — Prof. Dr. Saskia Wendel, Dean of the Faculty, and Prof. em. Dr. Bernd Jochen Hilberath, speaking on behalf of the emeriti, offered words of greeting. Brief reflections were also shared by Dr. Birgit Hoyer, Prof. Dr. Christian Bauer, and Prof. Dr. Michael Schüßler. Unfortunately, Dr. Dorothee Steiof was unable to attend due to illness.

The highlight of the event was the keynote lecture delivered by Prof. Fuchs himself, entitled: “Dankbarkeit und Mitgefühl. Eine verstörende Dialektik". The musical program for the celebration was provided by Marwan Abado, a singer and oud player based in Vienna.

After the formal part of the event, guests took the opportunity to enjoy the evening with lively conversations and joyful reunions.

Abstract
Queeres Leben und Denken öffnet den Blick für die Vielfalt von Sexualität und Gender, gibt der Selbstdefinition der Einzelnen mehr Gewicht und verflüssigt dadurch gesellschaftliche Übereinkünfte zu Körper und Person. Der Beitrag stellt wesentliche Aspekte der Queer Studies und Queerer Theologien vor. Anschließend wird die fundamentalpastorale Herausforderung skizziert, nicht nur über, sondern mit queer zu denken. Die einflussreiche Position von Marcella Althaus-Reid wird dafür zum Ausgangspunkt, um aktuelle Dynamiken wie #OutInChurch in ihrer queertheologischen Generativität würdigen zu können (ibid.).

"The article reflects on the transformation of German Theology facing ruptures and entanglements of a global world. The first part deals with personal experiences in Manila and the global entanglement of human rights movements with European engagement and theology. This leads to a decolonial “provincialization” of German Theology. This change in the direction of doing theology and in ethical thinking is made clear by the example of the Tübingens Alfons-Auer-Ethic-Award given to the postcolonial scholar Leela Ghandi. Turning to the global Catholic Church, the last part discovers common concerns across the seemingly abyssal line between the North and the South. The theologically relevant lines of conflict apparently run across continents and geographic boundaries. To call the commitment to gender justice, diversity, and synodal power control in the church a Eurocentric luxury issue is thus proving obviously wrong" (ibid.).

Der zweite Teil vertieft im Horizont der Rede vom Anthropozän die Anfragen an den Stand der (Praktischen) Theologie: Um einen auch für Menschen weiter bewohnbaren Planeten zu bewahren, darf Theologie nicht mehr allein vom Menschen ausgehen, sondern von der Verbundenheit aller unterschiedlichen Wesen.
