Elisa Hasse is a PhD candidate in the Department of Japanese Studies at the University of Tübingen. She studied Japanese History at Tübingen University and Chuo University. She has been working and teaching at the Department of Japanese Studies since 2025. Her research focuses on Climate History with a particular focus on the Little Ice Age (ca. 1400–1850) and its effects on Japan's west coast. For her dissertation, she examines the Hokushinetsu Region, combining a variety of climatological proxies, like the Omiwatari of Lake Suwa in Nagano, with historic records of travellers and locals, for an interdisciplinary climate history perspective on Japan's peripheries.
