Research ProjectThinking about the nation in Taiwan: discourses and representations amongst the Kuomintang's new generations (2008-2022)

Biography

Hsiao-Man is a doctoral candidate in Political Science and Taiwan Studies at the University of Rennes 2 and the Catholic University of Paris.

In their quest to better understand national sense of belonging’s narratives and definition, their Ph.D. project investigates how young generations of Kuomintang members perceive and define the nation, the State and above all themselves -as citizens, in present-day Taiwan.

In particular, Hsiao-Man reflects on issues of power dynamics, political representation, and inclusivity in Taiwan’s current political landscape. They question the dominant biases and narratives existing in and outside of Taiwan while studying and producing knowledge about Taiwanese politics.

Prior to their PhD project, Hsiao-Man’s academic education and interests have mainly focused on the PRC’s model of governance, Cross-Strait geopolitics, and the role of intersubjectivity in politics.
