Ming-Yeh T. Rawnsley, originally from Kaohsiung, Taiwan, is a research fellow at the Institute of Communications Studies and White Rose East Asian Centre, University of Leeds. She worked as a journalist and TV script writer in Taiwan until she went to the UK and completed her PhD thesis on Taiwan's public service TV station. She was a research fellow at the Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies, University of Nottingham, between 2000 and 2005 when her research focus was on the media and democratization in Taiwan. She left Nottingham for China in 2005 with her husband, Professor Gary Rawnsley, and both worked for the University of Nottingham Ningbo, China (UNNC); Ming-Yeh was the Head of Chinese Studies and the Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies–Ningbo, while Gary was Dean of the UNNC. They both left Ningbo for Leeds in 2007 when Ming-Yeh began researching the Chinese-language cinema. She is currently involved in two practice-based projects: ‘Making Science TV Programmes for the International Market’ (with Shih-Hsin University, funded by National Science Council, Taiwan), and ‘Cross-Cultural Dialogue: Taiwan Film Festivals’ (sponsored by the University of Leeds and Taipei Representative Office in the UK). She is also working on two books: Global Chinese Cinema: The Culture and Politics of Hero (co-edited with Gary Rawnsley, RoutledgeCurzon, forthcoming) and Cultural and Social Changes in Taiwan: Society, Cinema and Theatre (RoutledgeCurzon, forthcoming).
