The project E-SOLD is concerned with the ethical issues of research, development and implementation of so-called stand-off lie detectors.

Although these systems are described by their developers as „non-invasive“, they may be invasive in new and complex ways. An ethical analysis, which is situated in advance of the technological developments, can contribute significantly to clarify, if (how / under what conditions / at which locations) such systems might be politically, socially and morally acceptable. For this purpose a report will be prepared. This report will show on the basis of concrete scenarios, under which (political, social and legal) circumstances the implementation of the technology might be ethically possible, and where the limits of an implementation are.

The project is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
