Block Course 2026: Chemical Sensors — Basics, Technology and Applications

02.03.2026–13.03.2026

Course Overview
This English-taught course offers a solid introduction to research in the field of chemical gas sensors and their practical applications.

You’ll explore a range of sensor types, including:

  • Electrochemical sensors (using liquid and solid electrolytes)

  • Conductometric sensors (based on semiconducting metal oxides)

  • Calorimetric and gravimetric sensors

The course also covers sensor fabrication, application areas, and proper data evaluation techniques.

Online Preparation Before the Course Begins
Once registration closes, you'll receive early access to a set of preparatory materials designed to help you get started:

  • A selection of pre-recorded video lectures and PDFs

  • In-depth explanations of the experiments

  • Data sets with step-by-step evaluation guides

This preparation will ensure you're familiar with the content and expectations before the course officially starts.
All materials should be reviewed, and the data evaluation completed by March 2, 2026, when the course begins.
The full course schedule will be shared by the end of February 2026. Access to the preparatory materials will also end at that time.

On-Site Learning & Practical Training

  • Lectures from leading researchers and professionals in the field

  • Hands-on lab experiments

  • Data evaluation seminars, where you'll present and discuss your results

You may use any software of your choice for data analysis. Completing the evaluation successfully is required to earn ECTS credits.
